>6-7-97 Day 1: > >
We left about two hours late, as expected. at 7 am. We headed out through >Minnesota, to Iowa, to Nebraska. A boring first day. The landscape just >keeps getting flatter and flatter. I did see an exit sign for the towns of >Slater and Maxwell, a odd combination. I drove through both John Wayne's > birth place and stayed in Wild Bill Hickock's birth place on the same day. > We stayed in North Platte, Nebraska The Best Western Motel room 29. The >only thing North Platte had for stores was either Cell phones or hair >cutting, a strange little town. I finished the First book of the trip in >that 12 hour drive, Kurt Vonnegut's "Slaughterhouse-Five". >
>6-8-97 Day 2: > >
Into the mountains. Rocks. rocks, and more rocks. We head for Wyoming. > You know you've reached the mountains when your traveling down the flat >plains and you run into a giant wall of rock. It does give you a sense of >peace though; the Mountains allow you to reflect on your thoughts, the >plains allow your mind to wander in the never ending horizon. The color of >the rocks change to red. We stopped at Dennys, first time I 'd be to one of >those in a good eight months, gone are the days when it was my hangout. > Their is a place called Little America, their were signs for about >two-hundered miles for it, one or two every other mile. When we finally >arrived at it, it was about two, maybe three, blocks long; what a letdown. > INTO UTAH. My exciting event for the day was driving next to a semi-truck >that said "Radioactive Material on Board', The trailer had a large >cylindrical cage with a smaller cylinder inside, It was probably a control >rod for a nuclear power plant. The Motel of the day; Best Western room 129 > (wasn't It 29 yesterday, hmm.). The book I started this day was H.G. Wells >"The Time Machine" >
>6-9-97 Day 3: > >
Out of Utah, to Nevada. to Arizona, to California. The Mountains have >changed from brown, red, gray, even green rocks. Nevada, I saw my first palm >tree up close and personal at Mc Donalds next to a couple of big Casinos in >the middle of nowhere. Did I mention my diet consists of at least one meal >at Mc Donalds every day (Oh, my stomach). The rest of the trip is boring, >until we reach California. I saw the Ocean for the first time. It was >pretty cool, not as exciting as I thought it would be but still it was >impressive. There were quite a few oil drilling platforms off from the beach >in the Anaheim area. It was a very strange feeling to be a minority. We >went to K-mart to pick up a few things and I was surprised when I saw another >Euro-American like myself. This motel, another "Best" Western, was by far >the worst place we had to stay (located in "Little Saigon" as it was called, >all the store signs were in Korean or Vietnamese with english subtitles) and >we had to stay here the longest. The TV didn't even get any English speaking >channels except for HBO after I repaired the bare wire that was connected >into the socket. I finished "The Time Machine" today. >
>6-10-97 Day 4: > >
Disneyland. It's smaller than Great America in Gurnee Mills, did you know >that? It is definitely a place for kids. I did enjoy three rides in >particular; Star Tours (Star Wars), Space Mountain, and Indiana Jones. Star >Tours was very cool. You enter a space port where R2-D2 and C3P0 explain >the ride. while you walk around to get to the ride there are various droids >being repaired and talking to you. The ride itself was supposedly stationary >but it didn't feel like it . A Droid with the voices of Paul Reubens >(Pee-Wee Herman) Told you it was his first time flying and to "enjoy" the >ride. You end up going the wrong way and jump to lightspeed (It definitely >felt like lightspeed) and come face to face with Imperial star ships. The whole time there is a secondary smaller screen that shows R2-D2 and the Rebel >fighter pilots you talk to. In the end... well I won't ruin the end for you. > Space mountain was awesome. An entire dome encased in darkness, filled with >stars, and your whipping around them at a high speed. A major rush. But the >best of all was Indiana Jones the ride. The line to the ancient ruins seemed >short, but what I didn't know was that the line went for at least a half a >mile underground. Finally the was a room with a movie projector that >explained the ride and what Indy's mission was. The cars of the roller >coaster were jeeps that fit about twelve (three rows of four). It began with >the choice of three doors, the door we went through was number 3. After >going through alot of ok things we saw the robotic Indiana Jones' Telling >you where to go. We entered a Cave about 70 feet high that contained a 50 >foot stone skull that shot fire. There were a few places in the cave that >shot fire and you could feel the heat and smell the butane gas. Out of the > cave you go into a tunnel and see Indy hanging from a rope and he says slow >down and let me in. The jeep slows down and suddenly a bolder the size of >Texas is rolling right at you, the jeep starts to roll back, and suddenly you >roll straight into the bolder and drop down through the ground and out of the >ride. That was one of 9 possible rides that exist on that roller coaster. > it was a good day. >
>6-11-97 Day 5: > >
My sisters first interview. I went to a few stores, Bought some Junk. Drove >down the Pacific Coast Highway to Laguna Beach (a much better beach than the >first one). And ended the night with Dinner at my cousins house. A >non-descript day in the trip.**except for driving through Twin Peak's, CA** >
>6-12-97 Day 6: > >
Spent the morning in Arizona for my sisters second interview. Sat out in >the sun to get a tan while I waited. Left for Vegas. > >OK this is boring, I went to Las Vegas, won $60, put it backin the machine >and lost 30, more, I went back home and here I am. >
>That was long and borin, I just got home from Riverfest (4th of july thing) >drunker than I should be considering that I'm working a 9 hour shift at 10 am >this morning and it is already 3 am. So it goes > >but as for the moral of the story: > > All of the books I read were about Time travel. The Time Machine, Slauter >House Five, and other, all about time. And I was traveling in time and space, >jumping from time zone to time zone. One thing that stood out in particular >was that in Slaughter House Five the main characher becomes unstuck in time >and learns an great philosophe from some aliens. A person never is truly >dead because the still exist in some point in time. hencefroth came the term "So it goes" meaning you cannot change what has happend only accept >it. And that is what I am doing I have began to attempt creating a life >where (with little sucsess) I can do as I please. Of course it is still >always more dificult than it looks, I am just rambling in my drunnken state, >so for now I leave you to your business and hope that all is well\ >

Well its 4:20 am, My First sober night this week. Luckly for me I am still >alive. I ommitted a small detail from the last letter (nothing of great >import but...) I thought it would be humorous: On the last day or so of my >trip, we were listening to some 70's radio program and they played "Disco >Duck" with Donald Duck singing it. It was one of my favorite records when I >was a wee lad (If you play it backward you can here a good fried chicken >recipe!) But I Have to catch up on that unconcious thing that people do >every night.... > > Be seeing you..... > The Reaper >
